Tip: How to help those who find your lost camera
Not everyone is a thief, far from it. The vast majority of people, if given the chance, will happy return lost items, if they can EASILY find you. I’ve found a few digital cameras and it was almost impossible to find the owner. However, with digital cameras, there is an easy solution to make sure that if you do loose your camera, you can easily be found.
So here is a quick and easy tip on how to make your camera easily returnable. This guide was written for a Canon, but every camera has this feature.
1. take a picture of your computer screen, with this your own text on it:
“If Found please contact
999.555.1212 or
xxxxx@xxxxx.com”
Like so:

2. Then go and view your camera’s pictures on the LCD.
3. Now hit MENU:
4. Now go down to “Protect”
5. Now hit select:
and it will go to your pictures so you can choose which one(s) you want to protect.

6. Now hit SET to lock this picture:

And you will see the little orange key in the bottom right hand corner. That’s it. Then whenever you flush all the pictures off your camera, that picture will stay on there forever more. Then whenever you loose your camera, the person can quickly and easily find you.
Easy simple way to have a little extra peace of mind.
And if you are really paranoid, add another picture, something like this:
“If you are going to steal my camera,
Please, at least email me all the photos
on the memory card
to: xxxxx@XXXXX.com
I hope better times come you way,
Enjoy the camera! Thanks. ”
Because in reality, while the camera is replaceable, the pictures may not be. Of course you can do whatever variation you wish, throw in a REWARD, whatever.
On some camera’s, you can put back on an image you edited in your favorite image editor, which makes it look cleaner, but both get the job done.
Enjoy!
